In the first two months of 2018, we got to try out a few new restaurants in the Fort. The wave of Spanish influenced cuisine continues to reach our city, apart from those that already exist (Tomatito, Bar Pintxos, Donosti, Vask).

Hacienda

F121 Forbestown Road, Forbeswood Heights Retail, BGC, Taguig City | (02) 625 4727

Hacienda offers Mexican comfort food like tacos, and crafted cocktails, agave tequila as well as mezcals.

VATOS

Net Park Building, 5th Avenue, BGC, Taguig City | (02) 246 9069 ext:357

Chilli Lime Shrimp tacos two pieces at P280. The shrimps were delicious. The flavor of the taco has an international appeal which may not be regarded as very Mexican. However, the shell of the taco was too small to keep the content in. Got messy very quickly.

OYE Tapas

Ground Floor, Uptown Place Mall, 36th Street Corner 9th Avenue, BGC, Taguig City | (02) 541 7025

This restaurant specializes in grilled food in Spanish style, such grilled chicken madaja (P365), grilled prawns with squid and vegetables (P495). It has about 30 tapas, from classics like caramares fritos con aeoli Negra (P285) to modern tapas such as grilled foie gras (P395).

La Mere Poulard

Ground Floor, SM Aura Premier, C5 Road Corner 26th Street, BGC, Taguig City | 0917 573 5513

This is the only restaurant on the list that does not serve Spanish influenced dishes. It is a French restaurant that specializes in dishes cooked in copper pans, such as the the jumbo scallop, salmon and Atlantic cod copper cocotte (P920) as shown in the featured photo, or beef tenderloin tataki (P840), and giant foamy omelettes, for example the chocolate and hazelnut omelette (P320) shown in photo above.

We liked the cocotte dish because the ingredients were fresh and cooking was good. If you have kids, you will appreciate also their kids menu which contain small portions of pasta for only P150 each. The omelette dessert tasted less interesting than its look.
