People who want to build physical strength through overcoming obstacles now have a place to train in Fort Bonifacio!
The Philippine chapter of Spartan Race, an international obstacle race franchise, has officially opened its first training center at the roof deck of W 5th Building at 5th Avenue, corner 32nd Street, BGC, in April 2018.
We took a tour of the training center on April 13, 2018.
The training center is located on the open roof deck of a 30-floor office building that looks like it were built by the Mindcraft software, with the exterior wall composing of square blue glasses of different shades.
Since it is an open roof deck, it can get quite hot during day time. But because of its height, it also gets a good breeze from time to time. And if one is really training for the obstacle courses, then one may as well start to get used to some outdoor climate!
The training center has a tall climbing frame, with ropes for climbing to a height of about 15 feet; monkey bars like those seen on TV in the ninja competitions, a spear target, climbing walls, and a few simple machines for strength building. It is not machine heavy like a regular exercise gym, but a lot of space for crawling and running.

When we attended the press conference, there was no obstacle course set up. But it is easy to imagine that, when needed, they can set up obstacle courses in the venue, since it is quite spacious.
At the grand opening, the Spartan Race Philippines organizers also promoted three upcoming obstacle course races, one in Cebu in June, one in July in Alabang, and another one in September to be held some where in Luzon.

Workout sessions
While people can pay a small fee and walk in to use the equipment, the training center also has classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced level athletes.
Spartan Kids
Even though the Spartan races are mainly targeted at physically competitive adults, the organizer manages to give a time slot for kids. Every Saturday morning, there is a half-hour training session for kids and the fee is only P200.
